CORO CASA DA MÚSICA

The repertoire of Portuguese choral music is extremely rich and constantly evolving, and this program by the Casa da Música Choir illustrates it perfectly. Starting with Renaissance polyphony, developed by masters in important religious centers of the time such as the Monastery of Santa Cruz in Coimbra, the Cathedral of Évora, and the Cathedral of Braga, we also discover choral works from subsequent periods, when the royal court in Lisbon sponsored Portuguese musicians. The program combines this artistic heritage with contemporary pieces by Ângela da Ponte, Luís Tinoco, and Chagas Rosa, suggesting a tribute from national composers to the oldest and most expressive of musical instruments, the voice.
