REMIX ENSEMBLE · ORQUESTRA BARROCA

Dédalo is a Greek mythological figure known for creating the labyrinth to imprison the fearsome Minotaur for King Minos of Crete. In Luca Francesconi’s piece that opens this program, the flute is “a faun, a goblin, or a satyr, free and happy,” taken into the labyrinthine chaos by the mechanistic rationality of the other instruments. A true confrontation between soloist and ensemble, in the style of the concerto form that dates back to the Baroque era. The second part is a journey into this concertante universe in a program by the Baroque Orchestra alongside the virtuoso Andreas Staier. Carlos Seixas’s music is highlighted, one of the first European composers to write concertos for harpsichord and string orchestra. Seixas’s talent was recognized early on by the Neapolitan Domenico Scarlatti, while he served at the Portuguese court. His sonatas remain as authentic jewels of the Baroque period, and Staier is one of its most acclaimed interpreters.
