Libera Me

ORQUESTRA SINFÓNICA DO PORTO CASA DA MÚSICA · CORO CASA DA MÚSICA

Showing simultaneous inspiration from Beethoven’s Funeral March from the Eroica Symphony and Mozart’s Requiem, Bomtempo’s Libera me is characterized by its austere and grandiose tone, reflected in the way choral blocks dialogue with the orchestra. This responsory, sung in the Office of the Dead, is based on a prayer for mercy and peace for the Day of Judgment, imbued with majestic solemnity. Haydn’s Funeral Symphony inaugurates the program, announcing this theme. The greatest composer of the Baroque era, for many the greatest composer of all time, will have his celebrated Concerto for Harpsichord and Orchestra in D minor performed on accordion tonight. The soloist is João Barradas, who has already recorded Bach’s concertos in a surprising and revealing interpretation of the sound potential of this instrument.
