This Friday, 20 February, at 2.30 pm, Casa da Música and Jornal de Notícias are hosting another concert in the newsroom. Soloists from the Symphony Orchestra will perform the first movement (allegro non tanto) of Antonín Dvořák’s String Quintet, known as the ‘American’.
This chamber music piece was composed by Dvořák in 1893, during his summer holiday in the US state of Iowa. Written for a string quartet with an additional second viola, this Dvořák Quintet incorporates influences from Native American and African-American music, resulting in a unique style that reflects the Czech composer’s fascination with the music he encountered in the New World, which he blended with his Bohemian roots.
As usual, this concert at the Jornal de Notícias offices will be streamed live on the digital platforms of Jornal de Notícias and Casa da Música.
Next Sunday, the 22nd, at 10.30 am, Antonín Dvořák’s American Quintet will be performed in its entirety by the Soloists of the Symphony Orchestra on stage at the Sala Suggia, where the public is also invited to attend another session of the Café com Nata series. The programme begins with the Divertimento for Strings, a work by Alessandro Rolla.
