Living in the House
The 2026 season reaffirms Casa da Música as an artistic, educational and social project deeply rooted in the local area and the people who live there. It is not merely a programme of events: it is a way of experiencing music, through concerts, workshops, tours, community projects and experiences that bring together artists, schools, families, local residents and visitors. Here, music is a place for learning, meeting and participation. Every concert, workshop or training session opens doors to new discoveries and brings together audiences of all ages. The Foundation maintains a clear commitment: to bring music to everyone and to create opportunities so that every person – regardless of their background or circumstances – finds in the Casa a welcoming space for expression and a sense of belonging.
MUSIC THAT REACHES WHERE IT’S MOST NEEDED
Casa da Música works in neighbourhoods, charitable organisations and vulnerable communities, where music becomes a focal point and a source of dignity. Projects such as Som da Rua and A Casa Vai a Casa demonstrate how artistic creation transforms lives and strengthens bonds. The A Casa Vai a Casa programme, which has received an award from CCDR-N, sends pairs of trainers each week to institutions that are unable to travel to Casa da Música. There, over six weeks, music, stories, memories and shared experiences are created, culminating in performances open to the public. Hundreds of institutions have already made this project their home – and many more need it.
The invitation is clear: help us reach the places where music is needed most. Spread the word, share the news, get involved
A PLACE TO GROW UP WITH MUSIC
Young people are at the heart of this community. We celebrate Children’s Day and World Music Day with events open to the public, and we have launched two major instrumental marathons – for the flute and the guitar – which bring together hundreds of young musicians in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and discovery. The Casa da Música Children’s Choir also continues to expand, involving schools in the Porto Metropolitan Area and creating programmes that combine rigour, joy and creativity. The Ao Alcance de Todos festival returns to place people with special needs at the heart of musical creation, with workshops and concerts tailored to their needs.
A HOME OPEN TO THE CITY
Under the ‘Society’ theme, the Casa is strengthening its role as a promoter of cultural citizenship: · Free concerts; · Performances in public spaces; · Local events across municipalities in the Porto Metropolitan Area; · Programmes for older people. Experiencing the Casa means taking part in this movement – and becoming part of the community that makes it possible.
DISCOVER BEFORE YOU LISTEN: PRELUDES AND RESONANCES
In 2026, the ‘Prelúdios Ressonâncias’ series will be launched: brief moments – conversations, presentations, short excerpts – that offer a glimpse into the world of each concert before the music begins. These events are led by students from music schools in the region, reinforcing the venue’s role as a platform for showcasing young performers.
MORE WAYS TO ENJOY YOUR HOME
Casa da Música also offers experiences beyond the stage: · Guided tours – for schools, families, groups and individual visitors, including self-guided and themed tours; · Open Course in the History of Music; · Catering areas – meeting places before and after concerts; · Themed activities and festivals – held in different parts of the building throughout the year. Your opinion matters: suggestions and contributions are always welcome. They help build a Casa that is increasingly open and inclusive.
