Live broadcast: PORTO. Back to the Future: 1996 – 2001 – 2026
Watch and Listen
In 2026, it will be 25 years since Porto was named European Capital of Culture in 2001, and 30 years since the historic centre of Porto was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
These two events had a transformative impact on Porto, opening the door to new ideas and responsibilities, movements and investments that have shaped our cultural, social and economic reality, giving rise to different visions and responses in the subsequent urban policies, which have played no small part in shaping their legacy.
Constituting a ‘living heritage’ today – albeit one not without its tensions – these landmarks justify a programme of initiatives centred on reflection, memory and creativity, which, drawing on this living heritage, will project visions of the future of Porto’s culture – that is to say, the future of the city itself – over the next decade.
The forum “PORTO. Back to the Future: 1996 – 2001 – 2026” is the first event in the series and will take place on 20 February at Casa da Música.
