New artistic appointments for the Orquestra Sinfónica and Coro
Ludovic Morlot will be the new Principal Conductor-Designate of the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, taking up his post as Conductor-Designate in January 2027 and as Principal Conductor in September 2027. Léo Warynski takes up the post of Principal Conductor of the Coro Casa da Música and Conductor-in-Residence with immediate effect.
These appointments reflect Casa da Música’s ambition to consolidate the artistic standing of its resident ensembles on the national and international scene, strengthening their presence within the European musical landscape. The arrival of Ludovic Morlot and Léo Warynski reinforces Casa da Música’s commitment to artistic excellence, innovation and openness to new perspectives on creation and performance. Both conductors share a strong affinity with Casa da Música’s artistic project and with the strategic vision of the Artistic and Education Director, François Bou, for the institution’s future.
Ludovic Morlot is currently Music Director of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Catalonia, Conductor Emeritus of the Seattle Symphony, and Associate Artist of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Internationally renowned for the versatility of his repertoire and his artistic creativity, he began his association with the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música in 2025, through particularly memorable collaborations, acclaimed by both the public and the orchestra’s musicians.
Léo Warynski is a leading figure in the symphonic-choral and contemporary repertoire. Artistic director of the vocal ensemble Les Métaboles, which he founded in 2010, and musical director of the instrumental ensemble Multilatérale, dedicated to contemporary composition, he has developed a close artistic relationship with the Coro Casa da Música, characterised by a strong musical affinity and a mutual enthusiasm for further developing this work in the future.
According to François Bou, Artistic and Educational Director of Casa da Música:
“The arrival of Ludovic Morlot and Léo Warynski marks a very important moment for the artistic future of our resident ensembles. They are two deeply inspiring musicians with highly distinguished international careers, whose artistic vision, high standards and ability to foster collective creativity will make a decisive contribution to the development of our ensembles and to strengthening Casa da Música’s presence on the European and international music scene.”
With these appointments, Casa da Música reinforces its mission to establish its resident ensembles as leading artistic bodies, capable of holding their own on the major international stages and of deepening their relationship with audiences.
