Carlo Maria Broschi, known by the pseudonym Farinelli, was a famous castrato of the 18th century, the highest-paid opera singer in Europe of his time. With a clear and powerful voice, he sang on stages and at courts (including the Portuguese court) and, for almost a decade, served the Spanish King Philip V, whose deep melancholy was soothed by the songs that, night after night, the lyrical singer sang to him. In 1994, the director Gérard Corbiau decided to tell the story of Farinelli in a film, a project that earned him a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film and an Oscar nomination. With artistic direction by Huw Daniel, the Baroque Orchestra will accompany the screening of the film in the Suggia Hall, performing its extraordinary original soundtrack. A musical and cinematic experience that promises to be unforgettable.
