Bach Triple

Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música

During Frederick the Great’s reign, Berlin emerged as one of Europe’s most important centres of culture, where artists and diverse influences converged at the Prussian court. This programme features the music of composers related to this backdrop, including the king himself, who was also a flautist and composer. His Symphony in D major, “The Shepherd King”, is framed by the overture from C. H. Graun’s opera Cesare and Cleopatra and J. S. Bach’s Triple Concerto in A minor, comparable in its magnificence to Brandenburg Concerti. After an instrumental piece by J. G. Janitsch, the concert ends with C. P. E. Bach’s Symphony in E minor, a perfect example of his stylistic boldness. The Baroque Orchestra will be conducted by Iranian-American Mahan Esfahani, one of the world’s finest harpsichordists nominated several times for the Gramophone Awards “Artist of the Year”.
