Victor Pereira

Clarinet

Victor Pereira is one of the most prominent Portuguese clarinetists of his generation. His career has been marked by a deep dedication and ongoing commitment to promoting and performing contemporary Portuguese music, securing his place as one of the country’s leading clarinetists. Known for his versatility, he has been the solo clarinetist of the Remix Ensemble Casa da Música since 2000, with which he has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls across Europe and recorded over twenty albums, featuring works by composers such as Emmanuel Nunes, António Pinho Vargas, and Miguel Azguime, among many others.

He began his studies at the Academia de Música de Castelo de Paiva and completed his undergraduate degree at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (Porto), under the guidance of António Saiote, receiving the Fundação Eng.º António de Almeida Prize. He later earned a Master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Aveiro, where he studied with Alain Damiens.

Winner of several national and international competitions, Victor Pereira has performed as a soloist in works by Mozart, Weber, Carter, Boulez, Kyburz, Navarro, Aperghis, and Corigliano. He has collaborated with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música, the Filarmonia das Beiras, and the Galician Symphony Orchestra.

His debut solo album, MO(VI)MENTOS, reflects key moments of his career and features works by composers such as Alexandre Delgado, António Pinho Vargas, Daniel Moreira, Jorge Prendas, Luís Carvalho, Nuno Peixoto Pinho, and Paulo Jorge Ferreira. He is the co-founder of the duo 2RV with clarinetist Ricardo Alves, with whom he released the album METAL. As a result of a long-standing collaboration with pianist Vítor Pinho, he recorded INVENÇÕES, an album dedicated to works by contemporary Portuguese composers including Luís Tinoco, Luís Carvalho, Telmo Marques, Ana Ataíde Magalhães, and Hugo Vasco Reis.

Victor Pereira is also deeply committed to teaching. He is a professor at the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho and the Academia de Música de Castelo de Paiva, and has also taught at Instituto Piaget and the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo – ESMAE. He is currently the artistic director of the Ibero-American Clarinet Academy, an annual event held in Castelo de Paiva that brings together leading clarinetists from across the Ibero-American world.

In parallel, he is also active as a conductor. He was conductor and artistic director of the Banda Marcial de Bairros, and currently holds the same roles with the Banda Marcial de Tarouquela and the Banda Municipal de Cinfães.
