Ricardo Pereira
Ricardo Pereira was born in Braga and began his musical studies with his father, António Pereira. He has developed a career as a trombonist and pedagogue, standing out both nationally and internationally. His formal studies began at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music in Braga, where he studied under Zeferino Pinto. He graduated in 2006 with the highest marks, earning the Artistic Merit Award. He continued his education at the School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE) in Porto, studying under Severo Martinez, and completed his Bachelor’s degree in Music in 2009, also with top distinction.
Ricardo further pursued his academic path with a Master’s degree in Music Education at the University of Minho (2011-2013) and, in 2020, earned the title of Specialist in Music from the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. Currently, he is undertaking a PhD in Artistic Education at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Porto, furthering his pedagogical and artistic expertise.
Throughout his career, Ricardo had the privilege of studying with many distinguished international teachers and soloists, including Jacques Mauger, Jon Etterbeek, Petur Eiriksson, Gyorgy Gyivicsan, Vincenzo Paratore, Stefan Schulz, Otmar Gaiswinkler, Andrea Conti, Charles Vernon, Mark Hampson, Andreas Klein, Achilles Liarmakopoulos, Jesper Busk Sørensen, Toby Oft, Bart Claessens, and Massimo La Rosa, among others, enriching his musical approach. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including First Prize at the 16th Chieri International Competition 2016, the Young Musicians Award (RTP 2013), First Prize at the 2nd Terras de La Salette National Competition 2009, and Second Prize at the IX SBALZ International Composition Competition 2022, among other achievements.
Since 2014, Ricardo has served as principal trombonist with the Remix Ensemble Casa da Música. Previously, he held the same position with the Orquestra do Norte. He has also collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Galician Symphony Orchestra, Klangforum Wien, among others. In addition, he has participated in international ensembles and orchestral academies, including the European Union Wind Orchestra, the Orquesta Joven de la Sinfónica de Galicia, the International Mahler Orchestra, The World Orchestra, and the Lucerne Festival Academy, performing concerts across Europe.
As a soloist, Ricardo has performed with prestigious ensembles, including the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Chieri Sinfonietta Orchestra (Italy), the Portuguese Symphonic Band, and the Professional Music School of Viana do Castelo Orchestra. In the field of education, he teaches trombone at the Lisbon School of Music, contributing to the mentoring of the next generation of musicians. He is regularly invited to lead workshops, masterclasses, and seminars, as well as to participate as a jury member in renowned competitions.

In 2020, he released his debut album, IMPROBABILE, in collaboration with harpist Erica Versace. Currently, he is an artist endorsed by Greenhoe Trombones.
