Music for Christmas
Christmas without music isn’t Christmas. This festive season, Casa da Música has decided to feature music that is sung, at this time of year, in other parts of the world. Léo Warynski will direct the Choir in a programme between the tropical and the temperate, with works that demonstrate the diversity of the choral repertoire. Chinese conductor Lio Kuokman debuts at the head of the Orquestra Sinfónica and presents a special programme full of fantasy, from the story The Nutcracker, that gave form to a memorable ballet by Tchaikovsky, to the adventures of the world’s most famous apprentice magician, who John Williams lit up with his music for the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The Orquestra Barroca joins the Coro Casa da Música and Coro Infantil to perform Telemann’s Magnificat, a magnificent work based on a Christian liturgical text that evokes the moment Maria discovered she was chosen to be the Messiah’s mother.
