The Art of Fugue

Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música · Remix Ensemble Casa da Música

Bach did not specify the instrumentation for his Art of Fugue, the brilliant testament that culminates centuries of music and the composer’s own creative life. But he could not have imagined the deconstruction it would undergo at the hands of his compatriot Johannes Schöllhorn two and a half centuries later. The result, at times luminous, at times sombre, magical or disconcerting, is a completely new perspective on a key work in history. In this concert, in which two resident ensembles of Casa da Música are on stage simultaneously, the opportunity to hear Schöllhorn’s version alongside another interpretation, more faithful to the spirit of its original time, by the Casa da Música Baroque Orchestra, takes on special significance.
