SUMMER PERFUME
On the day of the equinox, perfumes and sounds of summer abound, tracing a touch of nostalgia for the warm days and nights that lie behind us. In the company of the siblings Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, we can hear the singing of nightingales and the gentle rustle of leaves blown by the breeze. The Swedish composer Nils Lindberg portrays the sounds of the edge of the forest and the scent of grass and flowers during the last hours of twilight, while Wilhelm Peterson-Berger takes us to the green valleys of the mountains where young lovers sing. In turn, Frederik Delius brings us music that echoes on the water on a warm night, while Benjamin Britten describes a party with fishermen, farmers, and florists displaying their harvest in homage to the English queen of the 17th century, Elizabeth I, in the opera Gloriana. The programme ends with a bouquet of English summer folk songs.
