Stabat Mater

Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música

Italian Baroque takes center stage in Orquestra Barroca’s Easter Concert. Stabat Mater is Pergolesi’s most celebrated work, composed just before his untimely death at the age of 26. This masterpiece quickly became one of the finest examples of European sacred music, inspiring generations of composers to create their own interpretations of this 13th-century poem, which poignantly depicts the Virgin Mary’s suffering during the crucifixion of Jesus. The stunning vocal solos will be performed by the internationally acclaimed British countertenor Iestyn Davies, a Grammy and two-time Gramophone Award winner, alongside the versatile soprano Camila Mandillo. The concert opens with Carlos Seixas, one of the leading figures of Portuguese Baroque, and continues with Vivaldi’s ever-enticing concertante music.
