Lukas Sternath

Piano Series

The Piano Series welcomes young Austrian pianist Lukas Sternath, a multi-award-winning artist selected as an ECHO Rising Star for the 2024/25 season. His recital blends key works from the Romantic repertoire with modern idioms, including a piece composed specifically for him by renowned violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja. The programme features works by Gubaidulina and Brahms, both of which draw inspiration from Baroque music: Chaconne, written in 1962, refers to the namesake dance popular during that period, while Brahms’ Variations on a Theme by Handel, composed a century earlier, culminates in a grand fugue. The evening concludes with Liszt’s striking Sonata, an autobiographical work that alternates between restless ambiances and moments of profound lyricism.
