Lala Tamar

Concerts on the Terrace · Summer Time · Free Entry

Singer, songwriter, poet, guimbri player, dancer, and world traveler, Lala Tamar blends ancient North African rituals with a fresh and innovative feminine alchemy. She sings in Arabic, Amazigh, and Portuguese, creating music that feels like flipping through a grandmother’s photo album while dancing in a dream of poppies. She made history as the first artist to record a contemporary album in Haketia (a unique dialect spoken among Jews of northern Morocco of Spanish origin) and one of the first women to take the guimbri into new musical worlds. In this concert, she presents her new album, BAB SBA3 (The Lion’s Gate), previewed by the singles “Ashkid Aylli,” “Dak Lhbib,” “Fkhyali,” and “Pão com Manteiga.”
