ORQUESTRA SINFÓNICA DO PORTO CASA DA MÚSICA · COMMENTED CONCERT
A Sunday in the company of Maurice Ravel’s brilliant music and contrasting dances. A serenade sung at dawn transports us to the picturesque side of Spain with the sound of castanets, in a work that tells a story full of humor. One of the most well-known pieces in the piano repertoire, the Pavane for a Dead Princess, is even more seductive in its orchestral version. As for La Valse, Ravel himself described this homage to Johann Strauss with the following words: “Whirlwinds of clouds give glimpses, through some openings, of couples waltzing. The clouds fade away and reveal a ballroom where a crowd whirls around. The light from the chandeliers shines on the ceiling. It’s an imperial court around 1855.”
