JOURNEY TO SCOTLAND
In a concert featuring accordionist João Barradas, Artist in Residence in 2024, performing the latest score by Luís Tinoco, conductor Joana Carneiro leads works by Mendelssohn inspired by his journey to Scotland. After a series of concerts in London, Mendelssohn traveled to Edinburgh, where the first ideas for the Scottish Symphony were conceived. He then made a tumultuous crossing to the Hebrides, where he visited Fingal’s Cave, and finally visited Holyrood, the palace of Mary, Queen of Scots. These were the settings that inspired him to compose the program’s pieces, true masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire.
