It was in the midst of the hip hop explosion that the now acclaimed American singer-songwriter José James was born, whose music combines jazz with that genre from the Bronx. 1978, the title of his new album, which he is presenting at Casa da Música, evokes precisely that time when jazz, soul, disco and hip hop merged and filled the glittering nightclubs of the USA. This is also the atmosphere of the album, which features collaborations with Xênia França, a rising Brazilian star who was recently nominated for a Latin Grammy, and Belgian rapper/filmmaker of Congolese origin Baloji.
