iLolli-Pop
Alex Paxton is a composer and trombonist who has been hailed as one of the most modern, imaginative, and energetic artists of the moment. Winner of the recent editions of the Paul Hindemith Prize and the Ernst von Siemens Composition Prize, as well as the Ivor Novello British Composer Award, he transcends genre boundaries and can blend contemporary jazz with elements of minimalism or the world of wind orchestras, noise, and video game sounds, while also being a highly skilled improviser – and he will have ample space to showcase this in his work iLolli-Pop. Dance is the theme of this contemporary music programme directed by Enno Poppe, which begins with “Hard Boiled Variations” by Arnulf Herrmann, a piece for ensemble and dance that explores the ideas of acceleration, closeness, and distance. The urge to dance gives rise to “Hopse” by Aperghis, a poetic vision of a world moving to the rhythm of the feet of small children playing with geometrical figures and numbers drawn in chalk.
