Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música

Winner of the Donatella Flick LSO Conducting Competition and the German Conducting Award, Julio García Vico makes his debut at Casa da Música with a set of exuberant orchestral scores from the early 20th century. Francisco de Lacerda was at the height of his career as an internationally acclaimed conductor when he composed the symphonic ode Almourol, a work imbued with nostalgia and mystery, inspired by the medieval castle located on a small island in the Tagus River. This Iberian-inspired programme intersects with the influence of French Impressionism, both in Lacerda’s music and in Manuel de Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain, which underlines the sounds of Andalusian folk music. The soloist will be Raul da Costa, an acclaimed and award-winning Portuguese pianist of the new generation. The concert ends with two of the best-known orchestral pieces in the repertoire, both inspired by Spanish folk dance rhythms.
