Farinelli

Orquestra Barroca Casa da Música · Cine-concert

Carlo Maria Broschi, known by the stage name Farinelli, was a celebrated 18th-century castrato and the highest-paid opera singer in Europe of his time. With a voice of remarkable clarity and power, he performed on major stages and in royal courts (including the Portuguese court). For nearly a decade, he served Philip V of Spain, whose deep melancholy was soothed by the songs the singer performed for him night after night. In 1994, director Gérard Corbiau brought Farinelli’s story to the screen in the film Farinelli, which earned a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film and an Academy Award nomination. Under the artistic direction of Huw Daniel, Orquestra Barroca accompanies a screening of the film at Sala Suggia, performing its extraordinary original soundtrack live. A musical and cinematic experience that promises to be unforgettable.
