Famous Melodies

Coro Casa da Música

Not all the music we hear was conceived for the instruments that play it, or the voices that sing it. There are even instrumental pieces that are converted into choral music when someone imagines a new life for them. This is what Heitor Villa-Lobos did when he arranged several famous piano pieces for choir. This is the art of transcription, also evident in arrangements of works by Gustav and Franz Liszt. This programme also creates a dialogue between the present and the past, with works evocative of the Christmas season.
