Eiró

Portugal a Gosto

Amid hills and slopes, the bleating of animals merges with the steady freshness of the river. The day’s chores are set aside, and the people – rich in ancestral knowledge – gather, with music and dance as their excuse. Forbidden conversations resume. Wine fuels desire and loosens inhibitions; bread sustains the strength of revelry, and olive oil softens bodies worn by the land’s labor. Everything is aligned so that, in Eiró, the encounter may happen.

Years later, animals and fields give way to machines and buildings. The daily commitment to farming is gone, but the fatigue remains – and perhaps more than ever, people still need that moment of reunion. Simple, sublime gatherings, stripped of the everyday rhythm of passing time.

There are no longer village squares, no more corn husking to carry the songs. But the will remains. And from the will of six musicians, Eiró is born—a non-place shaped by contemporary people and experiences, seeking depth in Portuguese traditional folk music. In a festive tone, Eiró invites listeners on a journey across Portugal, where the celebration of the sonic palette of passo dobles, chulas, and viras takes center stage.

Rather than focusing on the prefix “re” – as in revisit or reinvent – Eiró expresses pure portugalidade: a Portuguese identity felt, not explained.
