From Cabaret to Baroque
A programme featuring exclusively Portuguese premieres, including the world premiere of a work by Yiran Zhao – a Chinese composer based in Berlin who has gained international recognition by blending diverse artistic expressions. Her piece for ensemble was commissioned by ECHO as part of a programme that presents new works by emerging composers at major venues across Europe. Remix Ensemble will also perform, for the first time, a work by another esteemed Asian composer, the Japanese Jo Kondo, who was honoured in 2024 with the prestigious Suntory Music Award. Part of the Liza Lim Portrait, Speak, be silent is a musical exploration of similarities, differences, and asymmetries, featuring Armenian violinist Ashot Sarkissjan (of the Arditti Quartet and Remix Ensemble) as soloist. In Hommage à Klaus Nomi, Olga Neuwirth pays tribute to the extraordinary and charismatic German singer – an icon of the 1980s and one of the first celebrities to succumb to AIDS – here embodied by countertenor Andrew Watts.
