Coro Casa da Música

Florian Helgarth is one of the most acclaimed choral conductors of his generation, standing out as the artistic director of ChorWerk Ruhr and Zürcher Sing-Akademie. He makes his debut with Coro Casa da Música in an evening of striking contrasts, fostering a dialogue between past and future. The programme opens with Bach’s most famous motet, Jesu meine Freude, remarkable for its intricate structure, which interweaves hymns and biblical texts. A fascination with Baroque themes and forms serves as inspiration for the music that follows. Norwegian composer Knut Nystedt’s Stabat Mater brings together choir and cello, an instrument often said to be the closest in tone to the human voice. The concert includes with two movements from Caroline Shaw’s stunning Partita for 8 Voices, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music.
