Calcutá
Lisbon-born composer and multi-instrumentalist Teresa Castro, now based in Porto, first emerged as the guitarist and vocalist of Mighty Sands and as the founder of the experimental drone quartet Savage Ohms. Under the artistic name Calcutá, she has released the EP Over Night, the soundtrack for the theatre production Real Dog, and the single “feux d’artifice,” which offers a glimpse into her long-awaited debut album. Voice, guitar, harmonium, and electronics form the instrumental core of Teresa’s music, which, combined with her hypnotic performances, draws us into a world shaped by folk, drone, experimental sounds, Indian classical music, polyphonic singing, and other eclectic influences.
