Beethoven’s Triple

Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música

Acclaimed French cellist Marc Coppey returns to Porto, this time accompanied by his son, violinist Emmanuel Coppey, and Irish pianist Finghin Collins. Under the baton of Ludovic Morlot, the program includes the famous Triple Concerto, unique in Beethoven’s oeuvre for its use of three soloists. In the second half, the Symphony Orchestra takes center stage in Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. Exiled in the United States in 1940, the composer wrote a work evocative of his native Russia, filling it with sounds typical of Orthodox sacred music, as well as references to fellow composers such as Stravinsky and Rimsky-Korsakov.
