Baroque danceS
The music of the Baroque period has intimate connections with dance. At the French court, complex choreographies required much training and represented political harmony and order. The dance practices at the court of Louis XIV spread throughout Europe, and the king himself was an avid dancer, even taking the stage in ballet scenes of musical theater productions. This program brings together several of the best composers from that golden period of French music, with a natural emphasis on Jean-Baptiste Lully, one of the most influential artists of the Baroque era.
