Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa

Three contrasting sound worlds come together in this concert conducted by Peter Sommerer, artistic director of the Saxony Wind Philharmonic. In Othello: A Symphonic Portrait, Alfred Reed transforms Shakespeare’s drama into a sequence of musical scenes, from love to tragedy. Theme and Variations reveals the virtuosity of Arnold Schoenberg’s musical writing in a composition designed for band. To close, Johann Strauss II brings Viennese brilliance and charm with the famous waltz Roses from the South.
