Bach’s Swing – From Leipzig to Jazz

Coro Casa da Música

A return to the brilliant music of Johann Sebastian Bach is inevitable, and his versatility serves as the theme for this late afternoon programme. Coro Casa da Música delves into creatively transformed keyboard pieces, revisits two of the most famous sacred motets and ends this journey with an excerpt from the Mass in B minor, in an arrangement full of swing made famous by the Swingle Singers. In between, we have Mendelssohn, an essential figure in bringing Bach back to the fore in the 19th century, Sven-David Sandström Sandström and José Luís Ferreira, composers of our time who were inspired by Bach’s choral music but knew how to recreate its spirit with originality and modern touches.
