Piano and Singing Recital with guest Cláudia Pereira Pinto

Alentejo to the music of José Afonso, to the ‘poetic’ prose of Gabriela Llansol, and to the poetry of Manuel Alegre and Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, I bring from Évora a little of what I’ve learnt on so many paths travelled from the fireplace of my grandparents’ house in Alto Minho to the open fire of the Alentejo.

Paths I travelled by the hand and affection of Cândido Lima, Louis Andriessen, Álvaro Teixeira Lopes*, Joana Gama**, Luís Pacheco Cunha*** and Arnaldo Trindade, dear friends who challenged or supported my imagination in the search for and discovery of expressive sounds.

I can’t fail to mention the name of Cláudia Pereira Pinto, a singer and special guest at this concert, who performed and recorded the CD Canções de Évora (2013).

* She performed in concerts and recorded the CD Doze Nocturnos Em Teu Nome and Lume de chão – tecido de memórias e afectos. (2005).

** Performed at numerous concerts and published the score for Lume de chão – tecido de memórias e afectos, which was recorded on the CD Viagens na minha terra (2019) .

*** Performed and recorded the CD Amílcar Vasques-Dias De ouvido e coração – Celebrando José Afonso. (2023).

The concept of “wandering” – linked to Alentejo’s cultural identity – is the motto of Évora, European Capital of Culture_2027.
