Symphony of the New World
The folk music that Dvořák absorbed during his stay in the United States runs through his Symphony No. 9, ‘From the New World’. Written for the then newly opened Carnegie Hall, the work blends the composer’s Bohemian heritage with the pentatonic scales and syncopated rhythms of Native American and African-American music, in one of the most beloved works in the symphonic repertoire.
