Invitation to Dance

14 – 29 September

No art is as close to music as dance. Their connection goes back a long way, and even today we’re still investigating which one gave rise to the other in prehistoric times. When they come together in the same space, be it a hall, a stage or a dance floor, contagion is inevitable. The Invitation to Dance brings us Stravinski’s famous and revolutionary ballets, performed by the Symphony Orchestra conducted by Stefan Blunier. The Remix Ensemble reunites with conductor Enno Poppe and presents works by Aperghis and Arnulf Herrmann imbued with the spirit of dance, sharing the stage with trombone virtuoso Alex Paxton. The Baroque Orchestra and Laurence Cummings demonstrate how music and movement are inseparable and how the steps and rhythms of traditional dances dominated much of the music that came down to us from the Baroque period.
