AVENUE CONCERTS
For many, September marks the return to work after the eagerly awaited vacation period. At this time, the way everybody is welcomed back, the environment encountered, and the stimuli that help take a breath for another year of toil make a significant difference. Aware of the importance of its contribution, Casa da Música never misses the call, marking each rentrée with two free concerts on Avenida dos Aliados, where the people of Porto gather to socialize and tune their spirits to the music of great masters. This time, the first composers to spread their art are the participants of the Som da Rua project, an inclusive ensemble formed by men and women who know the harsh reality of the streets. The poetry of the city, the shadows it carries in its soul, and the light it stubbornly uses to rescue life are poured into the weekly work of this collective, whose fruits we can all witness, admire, and celebrate together on what promises to be an emotional evening. Created in 2009 as part of an Education Service partnership with institutions in Greater Porto, Som da Rua consolidates itself year after year through its artistic and social value. The following night fulfills the dual purpose of marking the start of the new season and officially closing Casa da Música’s Summer, a significant responsibility to which Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música responds with the festive lightness of a programme filled with popular dances and crowned with the most beautiful excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece, Swan Lake.
